Body in France, Brain back in California!

We've obviously back. I need to upload pictures of the rest of our trip to California and our long New Year weekend in Badenweiler.

Coming back was grim. Freezing cold but it's better now. Grey though. We now have light till 5pm, which is better than 4:30. I can get used to the cold but the short days here in Europe are still difficult-after more than two decades!

I managed to "kill" the car twice my first week back to my "normal" life, forgetting that I was driving stick. I keep doing weird things like not putting enough money in the parking meter. But something weird happened a few days ago getting money out of the ATM. I stepped away from the machine to put my card back and my money came out. Some old guy grabbed it and insisted it was his. Sure enough, everyone turned against him in the back of the line, including an off-duty security officer who threatened to arrest him. It was more surreal than scary and of course, I was never in any real danger...

I got NO sympathy from my husband, who didn't understand why I "always need to have cash" and asked YET AGAIN "why don't you use the card"? Because dearheart, I'm not going to buy a 90 cent baguette with a darned Visa card!!!!! He totally doesn't relate to my cash-friendly lifestyle.

We also had the "Fete des Reines" show with Strasbourg GRS. Talia looks like a beaten child. She managed to scrape her ankle doing the splits in her routine, as well as got bashed by a club. Why the darnest do they have to use CLUBS, the most difficult equipment in RG?? The routine looks nice, if difficult.

Today is her last practice at CREPS, which is the sports complex here in Strg. They are renovating the gym and chucked the girls out with just a few weeks' notice. They had several hundred girls practicing a grand total of 68 hours a week. That's a lot of gym-searching that had to happen. Rhythmic Gymnastics is not a sport you can just do wherever. There's the high ceiling and the mats...

So Talia will be in three different places starting this week. One small point does work out for me is that Thursday night has been moved to Wednesday morning. The coach asked "Does anyone have a conflict?" I'm all "Yes, my youngest in the Poussine group?" "No, that will be fine. Both at the same time and place". Yeah!!!

I'm having some issues uploading pictures. Not sure what the problem is but will post them, probably out of order, soon.
