Back in California!

Visiting Pier 39 with the kids.

You can see how hazy it was, because of the fires, in this photo. I couldn't smell it but it was like a film coving the sky while I was home.

We went to Sacramento for a family birthday party. Of course, Davina immediately bonded with the dogs.

Here's Annette (the owner) with both dogs, Rocky and Penelope.

We then left and went to visit Alice and her kids. She's Canadian and I know her from Hong Kong. It was only coincidence, and my good luck, that she married a fellow Californian. It's fun because she has boy-boy-girl. My son is in between her two boys' ages and her girl is in between Talia and Davina too. So we had three boys, followed by three girls. Luckily, the ice cream parlor was already pretty noisy!

They served these cute single scoops. Of course they all ordered bubble gum flavor!

Jonah ordered something bigger;

We went to a birthday party the next day. I only took a couple of pictures. It was a very pretty pool in Natomas;

Scott, Alice's husband, wasn't there so we took advantage of their big yard, swing set and pool for a couple of days;

Before saying goodbye, we went to lunch at a Thai restaurant, that luckily was almost empty. We were three moms and seven children. Alice and I have a "thing" for Thai food since we used to have it all the time in Hong Kong.

Back to the Bay Area and we had dinner at Tata Guk's and Uncle Will's that evening. Barbara and Todd came over too. Big announcement, Todd was leaving for Harvard where he's starting a Master's in Public Policy. End of an era for us though, as happy as we are... He even symbolically gave Will and Marshall his infamous crab shirt, which he always wore to our annual crab nights.

The neighbors also came and brought their daughter Olivia. Will gave them all "strechy frogs" which keep them occupied for ages;
