Le Foire Européenne!

We went to the Foire Europeeanne this year again, or "European Fair" if you prefer. I missed last years' because I was in the hospital so I was keen not to miss out this time.

It was held in the same area, Wacken as where I saw Obama. It kind of takes up a lot of room. A lot of events are held there but I think this is the biggest of the year.

Daniel was invited by one of his clients so we went a little early to visit.

We passed by this adorable super-mini ponies.

As this photo shows, they were too small to even ride, just a bit bigger than a dog, or the same size as a big one!

I had to take a million photos of them, they were so cute!

They were drawing quite a crowd and it was tough for me to pull the kids away from them.

But, being experts at hunting down cute animals anywhere, there was more to see. These very unusal granite-colored chicks to start...

Awwww! Just ordinary ones...

Here is a bunny being attacked, I mean petted, by these children. The owner was right there to make sure it didn't get tortured, too much...

What they're petting is a Rex Rabbit with a beautiful coppery-brown color and the softest fur I've ever touched on a bunny. It was a calm, sweet creature.

Ronnie's petting a tiny "Dalmation" bunny but I'm not sure if that's the real name.

I actually got Davina to get ready to go with the promise that we would try to find "that really big bunny". Well, sure enough, we found him! We saw him two years ago. This is a seriously large animal, weighing 7 kilos (2.2lbs per kilo, you do the math). It's basically cat-sized, or even bigger. It's cute in a kind of huge, gargantuan kind of way.

The ears look huge, especially when he's curled up like this.

It's hard to get perspective but you can see him next to Davina, how he's a little bigger than a normal rabbit.  Last time he was out and we pet him but we could still put our hands through the cage.

These pigeons were just sitting there, in the same position, same breed, different colors.

They had feathery feet.

What is this? A cotton ball with legs?

Okay, it's a very strange chicken.

Desperate to escape cow merchant chit-chat, I took the kids to a sort of dairy display. They were asking questions and giving out prizes so it attracted a suprising big crowd, given the subject was dairy... Ronnie wont a watch for correctly answering something. He asked how many months a cow is pregnant and I said 9 months. The guy didn't hear me but a jerk behind me repeated it and got the prize. Oh well... I guess I learned something hanging out with a cow merchant for 12 years...

Talia even gave the fake cow teat a squeeze. When he showed her how it's supposed to be done, he then squirted her. I was kind of glad it wasn't a real cow, although some were just across the aisle.

Meanwhile over with the Real Cows, they had an exciting contest to see how much this specific cow weighed. Daniel thought it was not fair if he played. It wouldn't have been because he got it right almost on the money, but no prize there... That darned cow barely fit in the weighing thingy. They kind of had to squeeze it in.

We ate with the cows. Not at any of the exotic dining areas. Oh no. Salad, bread, potatoes and Charolais. The point was that there were Charolais right behind us, mooing. So I'm eating the steak and listening to the cows... It wasn't the easiest meal to digest.

The kids wanted more free stuff from Securité Routière (road safety?) They love that stand. I found an excuse to escape Cow Chat time with the cow merchants with my half-digested steak and the mooing beasts...

Oh let's get the kids excited about motorcyles-NOT!

Vroom! Vroom! Davina go get'um!

Cute kid shot with nice policeman and his reflector belt.

Oh no! the bike has reflectors too!

This would have been a nice photo if Ronnie had look at the camera and Talia wasn't feeling up Davina...

Awww! Everyone's looking at the camera. Only problem; missing child playing video game about safety on the road.

Next door there was this fun Google map of Strasbourg.

The posed picture wasn't quite what I wanted...

The round building is the Council of Europe.

Found our house!

Found the school too. Talia's pointing to the yard of St. Jean.

The "Featured Country" was Thailand.

The entrance.

Yes, I bought two of her little parasols for the girls.

Dancing and music exhibits.

I actually returned while the kids were in school to look at the boring kitchen stuff. They were kind of vultures once I mentioned that we were in the middle of redoing ours'. I also found some nice stone furniture but he was insistent on buying that day. Um, no...

This was just a sky jumping thingy display. I snapped a couple of pictures out of curiosity, although I wasn't tempted to sign up!
