Papa's birthday

Daniel's birthday was the day we got back from England and when Daniel returned from Tunisia. He got back late so we didn't do anything until the next day.

We didn't have a 2 so we improvised with putting a 5 and two single candles on his cake.

His present was a waterfall. It's a small one only because that's all we could find. I said I hated them and so he was surprised to get it. I have now decided that I hate it. I hate the noise. I think it's a waste of energy. Oh well. I'm still trying to get rid of the grandfather clock and those awful columns in our living room!

This is just a picture of the girls in Place Klèber. I didn't know where else to put it. they're eating ice cream. This year was too cold to swim in the fountains. Last year, they went in there in suimsuits.

Fun with Matthew and Tomy

Matthew and Tomy used to live in Strasbourg and were spending a month with their dad, who still lives in the area. Ronnie and Matthew were really cute together when they were little so I was eager to "reintroduce" them again.

The dad had to work so I told him I was fine meeting up with the babysitter and doing something with all the kids together. We decided to meet at the Orangerie Park in town.

The weather wasn't too cooperative but that turned out to be a plus. Rain threatened but there was a sort of sport sampling organized. The dodgy weather probably kept the numbers down so the kids were able to try out pretty much everything.

There was a fencing exibit so Ronnie and the boys tried it out. The woman was pretty serious and actually spoke a little English (helpful for Matthew and Tomy). They enjoyed putting on the get-ups.

The square on the chest is actually electronic and registers when hit. It's good since there's no debate and several pairs can square off at the same time.

She gave them some pointers and explained the rules. When she asked Matthew if either had tried fencing before, he answered seriously "No but we've seen it in the movies!"

The other advantage of the weather was that it wasn't too hot, since those outfits would have been uncomfortable in the heat.

The girls, meanwhile, were more interested in the trampoline.

We then took them for ice cream.

They were keen to get back to the sporting ground and played lawn hockey for ages.

Dad came and relieved the babysitter and we hung out a little longer at the park. Unfortunately, we left on our cruise a few days later and couldn't get together again. It was fun to see them again. The younger one, Tomy was much outgoing and animated than when he lived here. Hope they had a good visit!

Hi from Italy!

We are on our last stop of our Med cruise, in Salerno. This is why I haven't updated this blog or even finished reporting on our London trip. I should be back on Friday night. I will probably set up a separate blog like I did on our cruise in 2007.

Ciao for now!
